write up of feedback given and also a discussion about the gig.
Today we were told that we need to talk and go over the gig and give each other feedback individually and as a group altogether so we took it in turns to talk and give our feedback which had to be positive but critical as well. So Cameron was first and I gave my feedback about him and then he had to say about his self too it went on until we all had our turn . You'll see what was said on their blog so I'm not going to put it into mine as its not necessary .
So here's was my feedback .
So I was told that my timing was good as rhythm playing and also as I did the lead on the songs and I was told I hadn't made any mistakes from they could tell I was told that the solo was good and perfect as all the notes were right and Dan said he could see that I have been going over that solo for a while he could tell that I have been practicing it and perfecting it which is nice to hear as I tried my best to make and perform that solo the best way I could so I'm glad it was liked by people .
Another comment from Dan was that I added texture to the band which I think he meant out of me and Lennon I was the one playing the lead and it added something to the song and the band .He also said that I completed the band which was a nice thing to hear .
I think in general they could tell that I have been practicing the songs and I knew them really well for the gig and its nice that was picked up on and noticed . Overall the feedback was I was a good guitar player and that my performance was good and everyone seemed to like what I was doing .
For the feedback I said about myself was to have more movement into my performance even if its just stepping a few steps forward or backwards but because the space was small didn't help as I felt like if I did move forward even more then I was I would of been really close up to people and there needs to be a bit of distance between us and the audience and I'm not one for jumping around the stage as my main focus is playing the guitar and getting it right .
But also again its about having that confidence I really did try to look up at the audience but also I didn't want to mess up the guitar parts as I was playing the lead and i think people would of noticed. Overall I'm glad I got the solo and I could perform one in the gig again and that it was noticed the work I put into it .
As a whole band we discussed that the sound overall was not right in some areas Lennon said he couldn't hear himself and when I watch the videos back I can't really him either but I could hear myself so I think that needed more of a sound check . I said about that I couldn't hear myself in my hero so I had to ask Joel before he went out of the space so that Alfie could come in and join to turn me up so I could hear my guitar better as I got a bit worried no one would hear my solo and I worked hard on putting it together and was looking forward to people hearing and seeing it so that's one of the main reasons why I asked to be turned up . I couldn't really hear on the bass and I sometimes relied on the bass to know where I come in also I do that with the drums too .
The stage /space was to small we didn't have enough room in rehearsals we were moving about freely and could interact and get to one and another but you couldn't of done that everyone had to stay where they were because there wasn't really room to move if you compare it to 45 live gig that we did the stage was bigger and more room to move so we all looked still at the gig because we couldn't do much movement even if we wanted too .
Dan said as a whole band the it was full on and complete and at the right levels we all did and tried our best and that's all you can do . Cameron said he couldn't hear Dan on the join me in death by him song as Dan was suppose to do backing vocals on that as he wanted him too but the mic must of not been loud enough as I couldn't hear him at the gig or when I watch the video back he said he could hear himself and I could hear Cameron but the mics must of not been turned up at the same levels a bit like the guitar and bass amps weren't as we would of heard it otherwise .
A issue we had was there was no lightening it was bright in there and I could see the whole audience and them watching me where as at 45 live I could see people but it was more darker on the lighting and was less in your face I felt more close to the audience in this gig then I did in the 45 live one. Also Lennon said that he couldn't tell if his pedal was on or off because of the lighting like we should of had some thing like the theatre has too change the lights as the lights to me personally change and added to the mood and atmosphere .
There was no back drops and there was no background visuals like we wanted to tell a story to the audience and by doing that we wanted visuals we just didn't have the time to sort them out as we were mainly focused on the performance and practical side of things and focused on getting the songs done and rehearsed and also for visuals I think we needed more guidance on what we could use and how we could use it and what to do and how to do it as i don't really know about that type of stuff .
Seating arrangements I think we should of moved the tables back a bit more or had no tables at all and just only chairs as it didn't feel or look like a gig it looked more like a café still and that's not what we were looking or going for so next time if this happens again I think more planning needs to go into it but it was last minute moved to the college as 45 live cancelled it on us through not having enough audience or tickets sold. If we had loads more people then we did have we wouldn't of fitted them all in but this gig there was less people .
Also in general the space and area was not the best place for us to perform as the café has a high roof and when playing it give off this reverb sound effect and we needed a lower roof space to play because of the type of music we played at that gig it didn't go with the room sound it sounded different in there then it did in the rehearsal room or room 310 . As they are proper music rooms and have been build and made for music and have the necessary bass and treble and middle padding and stuff in it and sound proof stuff too .
