Write up from rehearsal
18/5/23
Today we went into the rehearsal room as an exam was going on so we couldn't work in room 310 like we normally do .So we got set up and we had to move the piano and some of leads out the way and got the pedals and everything ready and set to go .
Then we did a warm up and song we used for that was London dungeon that went good no problems with that . Then we did a run through of join me in death then square hammer ,then pet semertary and heaven and hell a run through of everything basically there all good and ready to go .
We then talked about the song we started on Tuesday which was to live is to die by Metallica and so we listened to it through the Pa system and we talked about it and I don't really know it that well I only know one riff that's it and Alfie doesn't know it so we discussed whether we think we would be able to learn it and do it in time and I said no I'm not comfortable doing it as I probably wont remember it that well and I think that's embarrassing Infront of peoples friends and family .
So instead we talked about what others song could we do that are easy and could do and learn right there and then so Dan suggested at first doing there original sing they write with Becky but change the lyrics to horror and that wouldn't of work as I don't know it because I didn't write it or participate in it whenever they made it .
So then we talked about doing zombie by the cranberries as its only 4 chords and that's easy to learn so we ran through the chord pattern Joel showed me it on my guitar so it was e minor ,c major ,g major and d major well d major with f#sharp in the base to be exact but we are just playing the regular normal d major .
So we talked about doing open chords for verses and going higher up the neck for the chorus and put pedal which is gain . so i tried it out first with just clean sounding then we tried out al together with the vocals in and when we running through it there this solo interlude bit so Phil told me to do a solo which put me on the spot a bit but then I did a bit .
We also did listen to the song as well and Lennon tried doing a lead part which the one note didn't sound right so I had a go at it too with him and he noticed that I did it right so maybe add that part in somewhere in the song .
Then we did a whole run through of the setlist from my hero to zombie did the solo a bit better the second time around i was improvising it as the song doesn't have a solo I don't think normally and I wouldn't have much time to learn it if it did so i just making some stuff up as a go along .
Also to help Cameron out Joel suggested and printed out the lyrics to every song and put it somewhere so he can look at it in case he forgets the lyrics and also Joel is going to printed out some copies of the setlist as it keeps changing which isn't good and is confusing as we don't know what song is exactly coming next so we are going to have copies of that in case we forget or get confused and put it somewhere maybe on the floor like Joel suggested .
We also talked to Jack about what amps we wanted taking down for the gig so the ones from rehearsal room we were in or the ones from 310 I think the ones from 310 we might be having as we were suing the rehearsal ones at the time and also we don't want to take things that are too big down there as we don't have a lot of space really and the bass amp taking the one out the rehearsal room and Dan needs 5 cymbals.
What went well?
The songs are sounding good and to me are good to go .
I know my parts in every song and happy with how my playing went .
The song zombie was a good choice to put into the setlist and i feel like I have picked it up quite quickly and I think I am doing good on it
What could be improved ?
Well emotions are running high at the moment everyone seems a bit stressed out and nervous about tonight and had some disagreement going on Dan wanted the clicking track with the gig and has no wire or computer something like that and it was stressing him out I think a bit then Cameron and Lennon were disagreeing about something as well . we took breaks in between and I think that is helpful everyone needs to stay calm and cool and just take time out now and again .
As for me I was calm and just took breaks sat down the only thing I would say for me to improve would be when playing with the pedal just switching it on and off its trying to do that and keep playing as I'm not use to playing with pedals as at home and college I just turn on the gain switch and that's it where as we had a gain pedal because the solo in square hammer needed it .
Also another thing is I need to work on the solo for zombie as what i was doing in rehearsal wasn't bad but to me it wasn't good I could do better so I just want to have some kind of ideas in my head that i can put together and improvise with and because I was asked to do it i said use because I didn't want to say no because I enjoy soloing and I wanted to do it .
