write up from todays lesson
9/5/23
Today we talked about what it is that we can rehearse without the other two by that I mean Alfie and Dan so we said lets rehearse my hero but i was fine with rehearsing it but there was abit of like no i don't really want going on so we instead talked about the others songs the new ones which are welcome to hell by venom and all nightmare long by Metallica .
So Lennon asked me where have i got with them i said i have been trying to learn them and i have got bit progress with venom i have been trying it out at home he said he hasn't looked at them so he wanted me too play it so he could join in at some point i said it would help if I had the music /backing track on with me so we put that on through the PA well Cameron did for me I tried to but I kind of forgot how the song went and we spoke about it and said that there's some problems there like Lennon hasn't learnt it and mien was the timing of it so we talked about changing it and we did to Lennon suggest which was for whom the bells troll by Metallica so we put it onto listen to because I've not heard of it and Richard was in there with is because he came to see what we were working on and he said that he knows how to play the song and would teach us some of it.
So he got the Cameron's bass guitar and told me and Lennon the starting riff which was an f # power chord got to an e power and told the rhythm which i got bit confused about cause I don't know the song i just played it with just f# note and then later put it into a power chord and then second riff was quite fast and I'm not use to it and it was going up and down between f#,g,a,b so we decided for now that the bass guitar can play that but maybe later us guitars me and Lennon might play it but i just need some time to get my head around it if that makes sense . Then Richard said there's some lead parts in this song so he said that maybe i should do it as I'm more lead then rhythm i play both but i do solos and things were the others don't so but he said he would show to Lennon but i think he wanted me to do it and Lennon do the chords that are played alongside the lead part so he showed it me in two different ways and asked me which i way i thought was easier for me but I didn't know because hadn't played it yet so he told me it note by note both ways and the first way of doing it was best for me so he left me to go over that by myself whilst he works with Lennon on the chord parts and we thought it was best to get it written down because i work better that way I think really .
So he wrote it down on the write board and we then tried out as a 3 there were some issues because none of us are used to it yet. Then we went for a break and after break we were supposed to work on the song again but I think we all needed too well I needed to look at it by myself at home to understand it more Lennon did put it on through the PA and was strumming away too it as he knows it more then me so while he was doing i was looking at the tab but also looking for videos on YouTube to see if I can watch them to help as i find that helps with the song also by listening to it . So there wasn't much more we could do with this song so me and Lennon talked he said to me is this replacing welcome to hell I said yes and we talked about the other one nightmare long i said it is too long and complicated for this short amount of time that we have got left and he agreed and kind of said the same thing as me so instead he put on to live is to die by Metallica again the instrumental version and said left do only like half of the song I don't know it but he said I would be able to pick it up as it is only power chords which i will so had a listen to it and yeah I think that's we are going for .
Cameron doesn't have to sing the to live is to die one as we are going to do it instrumental version and Lennon said that Cameron's voice will probably be hurting by that point anyway .
Then Caroline said she wanted to hear us play through my hero as when we were we lasted rehearsed it we didn't it without Cameron as he wasn't in so we had to do it just us 2 so she wanted to hear it all together so we got Rob to do a little drum beat on it but we didn't know where exactly the drum beat comes in as we are not doing the normal original version we are doing an acoustic version instead as originally Cameron said he wanted no drums on it that what i have been told previously but now they might get Dan to add in so we listen to acoustic version through the PA system again and figured out where it comes in which is the build up in the bridge part where the guitars are just strumming the e chord for a very long time and the drums come in at that point so we gave it ago through the whole song but we had some problems when we got to the bridge part as me and Lennon weren't playing the same thing so we went over the song again but from the second chorus it was bit better but there were still few mistakes like drums not coming in or vocals so we went over it again and Rob decided to record it on his phone to look back on to listen too we went over that part from the second chorus about 3 or 4 times to try and get it better .
What went well?
We talked about the songs as because me and Lennon are the guitars plays for this gig its left up to us to learn the parts first and then we add the other instruments later so the rest of them were waiting on us basically and me and Lennon talked about it and i said that all night mare song just isn't do able right now and we changed the song and sorted it out kind of . My hero we finally got something done with it and it a bit rehearsed to me it is unrehearsed and needs more practice because there is only so much i can practice and go over by myself i know my parts .
What could be improved ?
Well we are now one week away from the gig and these song changes need to stop now because o feel like my time has kind of been wasted when it could of been utilised in ways on the songs that need doing like my hero because to me the song is unrehearsed even if we go over it just once that would be an improvement because its going to be messy and parts not right because its not been rehearsed whereas like square hammer or pet semertary for example we know them we play them it doesn't matter if you like them or not its a gig we are doing these because we need to for our grades but also I know I am doing these because I love music i love playing the guitar and i loved doing these last gig and being on stage and i want to perform to the best of my ability and that what you should want for yourself i feel loke these new songs are just going to be really unrehearsed and I don't like that if I'm being truthfully with you and now i need to go and look into them and try sort them out because in rehearsal I didn't really know what I was doing and I don't like that .
