Write up from today rehearsal

Today we met our new teacher and he asked us questions on what we have been doing so far so he asked me if I was working alone or in a group and I said I was working with Cameron and Lennon and we been doing horror themed tunes . Lennon told Phil more about the songs we have been doing so we have been doing London dungeon by the misfits ,square hammer by ghost ,about 2 minutes of heaven and hell and pet semertary by the Ramones .
There's some songs that we are doing before the horror songs like my hero by the foo fighters and Stephen doing a song too that isn't necessary horror themed. So the next thing we did was go to room 310 were we normally rehearse and showed Phil what we have got so far so we started of with London dungeon after that had finished Phil told Lennon to move back a bit and to face forward instead of side ways so then we did square hammer ,pet semertary and heaven and hell and ran through it like we normally would and then after we finished Phil gave us some feedback like my guitar needs to louder as he couldn't hear the solo and to turn the amp and the guitar down a bit as Lennon was louder then me and that's all i could hear I couldn't hear myself really at all and then he told Lennon the guitar needs to be turned down and levels of the guitars in general need to be at the same level.
He also did say to Cameron to do vocal warm ups before singing .Another thing was for me to move forward near the front as i am at the front but not close enough and Joel said that's something we had talked about recently and its a work in progress which it is .
Then we discussed as Lennon and Cameron said earlier they think they set sit should be about 30 minutes long and we only have 14 minutes so far so then we talked about songs we could do next so I was asked but I don't know as its got to be horror themed and its hard to think what fits into it sometimes and so Lennon suggested some which was Metallica all nightmare long , number of beast by iron maiden and Alfie suggested welcome to hell by venom so listened to all three and we all said we will do them.
So then we got some tabs up on the phone and Joel went through the timing of the riff with me and then he tried to show me on the bass the rhythm of it and tried it out my guitar too and we went over it for awhile and also tried to do it with the song on the pa system too . Then we had a break whilst I was on break I tried looking it up and seeing how others were playing it but I couldn't find much on it and then after break Phil asked us if we could show what we have got so far of the welcome to hell riff but we said we need some time to look at it as its not working at the moment.
So instead we worked on my hero so we showed Phil what we got so far and when we got up to about the middle eight section we were not playing the same things so we stopped listen to the original recording for reference and then we went from the second chorus and to end and went around it about 4 times as we made little mistakes here and there and we were trying to get it together better . Joel realised that the welcome to hell song was originally in f sharp but the tab we are playing is in A .
So he looked for a backing track or some way to change it as if we play to the original it was sound out of tune and so he found one eventually and we have it on teams to follow along too . The as Stephen hasn't got any songs yet in the show we talked about what he could do so he was going to do black sabbath by Black Sabbath but he said its too slow and then Cameron suggested Stephen to sing the welcome to hell song but he said its too high for him and there is. screamy parts in it too so he said he is doing a song called Dani California by the red hot chilli peppers .
So he said he was playing that on guitar and he asked Lennon to play as he didn't have his guitar with him and Alfie had ago at playing the drums as Dan wasn't in and Joel played the bass for them and the went through the whole song I sat this one out as I didn't know it but Joel did suggest to me to learn it just so I know it and Stephen might need me to play it so I'll have a look at it . Also we did talk about what is the best order to learn the 3 new songs in so we decided welcome to hell by venom then iron maiden number of beast and then the Metallica all nightmare long as the first one is straightforward to learn out of all of them and also the Metallica one is about 8 minutes long I think and its too long so we are going to short it and cuts bits out and shorted the intro and things to make it more playable .
What went well?
We got a run through the setlist we got some feedback and I agree with what he said and we talked about songs and we managed to get an order of what songs we are going to learn next and we started one of them today even though I was having problems with the timing I still had ago and went over it and tried to get it we rehearsed my hero with of all three of us which was good as Tuesday it was just me and Lennon doing it so even though the were some timing issues and stops we managed to get through them and we are making progress slowly with that song so that's good .
We still managed to do the setlist without a drummer as Dan wasn't in and we have drums normally guide us sometimes like for example London dungeon Dan starts us off and then the bass comes in and then the guitars so we had work around that the best way we could considering we didn't have drums it went bit better then I expected it too it did sound a bit weird without drums .
What problems did you encounter and how did you resolve them ?
Well first of we had no drummer today for the setlist so we had to rehearse and show Phil without and do it the best way we can . The main problem for me was timing on the riff for the welcome to hell song by venom I just couldn't get the timing I tried and tried I just didn't understand it very well I need some time to go look at it like I did the square hammer one I'm not happy that I just haven't got the timing right as it frustrates me and it plays on my mind that I haven't done it right so I need to go see how it done and listen to and look up the other songs and watch videos on them to see how they are played and give them ago so that's how i can resolve that .
We also had problems with my hero Lennon was playing one thing i was playing another and it didn't sound right so how we resolved that is we listened back to the original recording and listened to what was going on and being played and then we went over it until it was better and its still a work in progress but its getting there .Still had some timing issues with the chorus chords i sometimes was playing on beat 1 when I shouldn't I should come in on beat 2 so Joel sat by me and counted and tapped his foot and kept me in time and put right when i was going wrong .
What are your plans for tomorrow?
To get some run throughs of the setlist done and mainly to focus on our new songs and some of whatever Stephen wants to play and go over that too we have got 3 hours so hope to make some kind of improvement in the riff and hopefully in the end i get it and work can move forward with the song .
